Betty said shopping’s becoming a bore,
What skirt, which jacket or top?
Endless hours of searching,
Often with money she hadn’t got.
  When she couldn’t give into temptations,
Betty knew things were getting drastic,
Anxiously checking each statement,
At the amount she’d put on plastic.
  Who was she really fooling?
Justifying two for one,
Even bargains and special offers,
Had lost their air of fun.
  “Oh how many dresses do I need?”
Betty slumped on the bed and cried,
“Or pairs of shoes do I have to own,
To bring me fulfilment inside?”
  In Betty’s search of completeness,
She could’ve walked to the ends of the earth,
With every store being out of stock,
Of self-confidence, value and worth.
  Going home she passed the bookstore,
And took a Bible off the shelf,
It became her very last purchase,
In search of loving herself.
